Description:While the Sherman Tank may not have been the most powerful on the battlefield, it made up for it in numbers. It was reliable and cheap to produce, while also being easy to maintain. There were over 49,000 Shermans built, and they were used by most of the allied armies. This early version of the Sherman was equipped with a 75 mm gun and 50 caliber machine guns. The M-4 was actually a development of the M-3 Grant Tank, which featured the main gun on the side of the tank. The M-4’s armor plate thickness varies from three inches in the front to one-half inch in the bottom of the hull. With an engine that developed 400 horsepower, the Sherman had a top speed of 24 mph and a range of up to 150 miles.
